The Albany Tennis Club is announcing a brand new program for learning how to play tennis – QuickStart Tennis. QuickStart Tennis is an exciting new play format for learning tennis. It is designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size.
The QuickStart Tennis play format is designed to help children find success from the very first swing. QuickStart Tennis appropriately scales down all aspects of regulation tennis—including equipment, court dimensions, and scoring—so that the game becomes specifically tailored to their age and size. The format is broken out into three age groupings, one for children ages 10-under, one for those who are 8-under and one for those who are 6-under, similar to models used successfully in other youth sports (such as youth baseball). To introduce the QuickStart Tennis format we will be having a special training session for adults on May 2nd at 1 pm at the Albany Tennis Club facilities in Ridgefield Park (bad weather location is Siena College, call 928-7507 to confirm if necessary). Parents are invited and encouraged to attend this introduction. This is a three hour interactive on-court workshop which provides an overview of the QuickStart Tennis format and the QuickStart Tennis Recreational Practice Plans. This workshop is about helping children learn and develop the skills necessary to play tennis. To help defray the costs of the session a fee of $10 is being charged.
From May 9th until June 13th the Albany Tennis Club will have a six week QuickStart Tennis Program on Saturday afternoons. Another session will be held from July 11th until August 15th. There will be age groups for 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10 year olds. So break out of the little league baseball/soccer mom syndrome and get your children involved in the lifetime sport of tennis. The program runs for 6 weeks, 60 minutes each week. The cost is $60. |
