Albany Tennis Club History

The Albany Tennis Club, which is listed in the USTA yearbooks under clubs that are 100 or more years old, was established in 1878, on the corner of Jay and Swan streets. General Robert S. Oliver was the club's president, and in 1881, in NYC, was elected as the first president of the USTA, which was the USNLTA (United States National Lawn Tennis Association back then).

At the present time, the ATC has 8 clay courts which they maintain within Ridgefield Park, in the Pine Hills section of the City of Albany. The Ridgefield facilities have a long history of promoting and teaching the game of tennis. Both junior and adult programs are part of our tradition. The USTA sanctioned Tri-County Tournament, which is held over the Labor Day weekend, is over 100 years old.
